Silicon Carbide

◐Silicon carbide (SiC), or carborundum, is a hard compound made of silicon and carbon. It serves as a strong composite deoxidizer, replacing traditional silicon-carbon powders with improved stability and deoxidation performance. Recently, it has been used in refractory linings, heating elements for industrial furnaces, wear-resistant components for pumps and rocket engines, and as semiconductor substrates for light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

Product Details

1.Introduction
Silicon carbide (SiC), also known as carborundum, is a hard compound consisting of silicon and carbon. It is a new type of strong composite deoxidizer that replaces traditional silicon-carbon powder for deoxidation, offering more stable physicochemical properties and better deoxidation effects compared to conventional processes. Silicon carbide is typically produced in resistance furnaces at high temperatures ranging from 1700 to 2500 °C. Since the late 19th century, silicon carbide has been an important material for sandpaper, grinding wheels, and cutting tools. In recent years, it has found applications in refractory linings and heating elements for industrial furnaces, wear-resistant components for pumps and rocket engines, as well as semiconductor substrates for light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

2.Applications
Non-Ferrous Metal Smelting: Utilizing the high moisture resistance, good thermal conductivity, impact resistance, and high strength of silicon carbide, it can achieve better results when indirectly heating materials at high temperatures. Applications include linings for copper smelting furnaces, trays for distillation furnaces, arc plates for zinc powder furnaces, and aluminum electrolytic cells.
Metallurgical Mining Industry: Moissanite, a form of silicon carbide, has a hardness second only to diamond and is highly wear-resistant, lasting more than five times longer than cast iron and rubber. It is also an ideal material for airport runways.
Building Materials, Ceramics, and Grinding Wheel Industry: Utilizing the high-temperature resistance and high thermal conductivity of moissanite, thin slab kiln furniture can be manufactured, which not only increases the capacity of the kiln furniture but also greatly improves the product quality, helping to shorten the production cycle. Silicon carbide can be considered a ceramic glaze material and is an ideal indirect material for baking and sintering processes.
